Mercedes-Benz wanted to continue the culture of the large and fine pre-war cars. In 1951, there was once again a large Mercedes, the Type 300, and at the Autumn Salon of the same year in Paris, there was the Type 300 S. These super-luxury vehicles were only available as coupé, convertible or roadster. With a three-carburettor system, the new six-cylinder engine had 150 hp at its disposal. It was clear that this Mercedes, with a price of DM 34,500, was only suitable for a small circle of interested parties. Only 560 units of the 300 S were built in all variants.
Our Mercedes-Benz 300 S Cabriolet A is the Daimler-Benz demonstration car shown at the above-mentioned 1951 Paris Motor Show. Currently it is registered in Germany. During a restoration some years ago, the classic received an engine from the Mercedes 300 d (W 189). The workmanship is excellent. The dark blue paint and the grey leather are of the finest quality.
