In the thirties, people increasingly believed in the streamline. Thus the engine went to the rear, locked with the drive axle. Rumpler was known but conceptually Tatra designer Hans Ledwinka set the pace. Professor Porsche also took up this concept. Daimler-Benz AG implemented the first full-fledged rear-engine car in this series, the Type 130. The experiments of Daimler-Benz with this concept originally remained hidden from the public. So the presentation at the Berlin Motor Show 1934 was a sensation. In practice, the type 130 did not prevail as the load distribution of 65% on the rear axle was too extreme.

Our Mercedes 130 Convertible Saloon is a barn find. And it was almost complete at the time. The current owner restored the engine, brakes and the rest of the technology. The interior and the roof are newly built. Various bills are available. In mid-2017, this really rare Mercedes came back on the road. You will rarely ever meet a 130, especially as a saloon.
