The 300 SL, Mercedes SL was a true sensation in the fall of 1954, as Mercedes’ popular race car turned road worthy, including gull-wing doors. Most buyers had bever seen such a thing and at a price of DM 29,000 only 1,400 cars were sold, mostly to the US. Starting in May 1957 the 300 SL was also available as a gorgeous Roadster. Despite its steep price of DM 32,500, 1,858 cars were built. The 300 SL has always been a luxury sports car, to this day.
