When the Mercedes 300 d was introduced in August 1957, the smaller models already had self-supporting bodies but the large Mercedes “Adenauer” had remained conservative. The new model designation W 189 made it clear, however, that many changes were really a completely new construction. The new body was named “hardtop saloon” based on the rear part of the side window which was removable and made the roof look light and floating like a “hard top”. The 300 d, like its predecessors was extremely expensive at a DM 27,000 price point. Only 3,037 were built so this classic car is very rare today.
According to its data sheet our 300 d was delievered in New York. Its silver grey metallic (DB 180) coat and blue leather are its original color. The classic has been in Germany since 1991 and with its current owner since 2005. We have all service invoices from Mercedes repair shops since 2002. You are dealing with a wonderful high end and visually authentic classic here! It’s extensive original features make it a real gem!
