In the 1960s, the trend of offering powerful V8 engines in mid-size limousines also took hold in Europe. The USA had led the way, followed by England with Bristol and Jensen, and Italy with Iso Rivolta and De Tomaso, all of which installed V8 engines from the USA. But Maserati built the Quattroporte as a true high-performance limousine. Daimler-Benz also followed this path. Visitors to the 1968 Geneva Motor Show were surprised by the presentation of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3. The powerful luxury limousine was carefully designed and superbly crafted, hence the high price of DM 39,160.
Our Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3 limousine with extensive special equipment was delivered as an executive vehicle for Klöckner Humboldt Deutz. Later, it belonged to a collector in San Francisco and then to its third owner in Japan. Now the classic car is registered in Germany. Shortly before it came to us, it underwent a major service with extensive work. Driving a 300 SEL 6.3 is a very special experience.
