The founder of Lagonda was the American opera singer Wilbur Gunn. He came to England in 1981 and began building motorbikes, tricycles and, from 1906, cars as well. He gave them the brand name ‘Lagonda’, named after a river near his hometown of Springfield, Ohio. Lagonda became famous for the 14/60 HP model, which was introduced in 1926. Later followed the successful six-cylinder engines, which were more than a match for those of Bentley and Invicta. The commercial success of the 14/60 HP, with its exceptional build quality and performance, was hugely important for Lagonda. The Lagonda 2 Litre is a further development of the 14/60 HP.
The history of our Lagonda 2 Litre Continental, which features a so-called ‘low chassis’, has been extensively researched. The classic car has been with its current owner since 1998 and is registered in Germany.
