The Hans Glas GmbH in Dingolfing, Bavaria, originally a manufacturer of agricultural machinery, took advantage of the post-war economic boom to produce scooters and small cars. This led to the creation of the famous Goggomobil. From 1962 onwards, larger vehicles were added to the range, such as the Glas 1004, 1204 and 1304, the four-door saloon Glas 1700 and, finally, the ‘large’ Glas 2600 V8 and 3000 V8. Between 1964 and 1967, the rather sporty Glas 1300 GT and 1700 GT were also offered as coupés and convertibles, featuring the Frua body from Italy. No more than just under 5,600 units from this small series were brought to market in total.
Our Glas 1300 GT Convertible, one of only 242 produced, was first registered on 19 August 1966 and was apparently always based in Lower Saxony. It underwent extensive restoration between 2016 and 2020, though the original interior has been preserved. The work is documented with various invoices and has been rated 2+ by Classic Data. Since May 2021, the classic convertible has been re-registered in Germany.
