It was definitely a challenge for Mercedes-Benz to replace the extremely successful series W 126 after 11 years. Especially the coupés (SEC) were very popular. The new series W 140 was introduced as a limousine in March of 1991. It was better at everything, was heavy, expensive, big and frankly ahead of its time. Today, nobody would notice since all luxury cars are big! At the time, however, the series S was dominant. Since 1993 the S 500 was available as a Coupé. Compared with the new model, its predecessors seemed almost dainty. Now that its an oldtimer, this model is beginning get traction.
Our Mercedes-Benz S 500 Coupé is roughly between the S 420 and S 600 in terms of motorization. Its dignified green metallic paint combined with black leather interior fits a Coupé perfectly. Despite its 137,000 kilometers there is no wear and tear on this oldtimer which is registered in Germany. Solid S 500 Coupés have become rare so this is a collectors’ car that also loves to be driven regularly!
