Die schönsten Cabrios von der Nachkriegszeit bis ins neue Jahrtausend

Mercedes-Benz 280 SL

To create an open sports car successor for the famous 300 SL and the very successful 190 SL was a challenging task. So when the brand new 230 SL arrived in 1963 the reviews were mixed. The modern Roadster was certainly an excellent backfill for the 190 SL but not the 300 SL. Six-cylinder engine, power steering, disk brakes and automatic transmission on demand are all technical details that are valid today.

Our Mercedes-Benz 280 SL from the last series was delivered in 1969 by the Daimler-Benz dealership in Frankfurt/Germany. The classic sports car is with its 3rd owner today. Its papers are complete and available and its mileage of 145,000 kms is confirmed through service certificates. This Roadster has never been restored but certainly repaired, e.g. the fenders were replaced and painted in its original color. Additionally, the car received body-cavity sealing. This classic is a German vehicle in best shape for use which is a rarity.

Mercedes-Benz 280 SL

The new SL had to replace the iconic 300 SL but also the very successful mode 190 SL. That is why the Mercedes sports car was newly defined: high performance combined with optimal driving behavior and polished comfort. These criteria matched perfectly with the series W 113 and the 230 SL and it became a modern replacement for the 190 SL. The 300 SL, however, was irreplaceable. The market welcomed the new SL with enthusiasm and that has not changed. Mercedes-Benz has been known to constantly upgrade its model series thus the 230 SL became the 250 SL and ultimately the 280 SL, its most mature version.

Our impressive 280 SL was delivered to the US with a title in California. It has been registered in Germany since 1995 and is with its current owner since 1997. The classic has been a loyal companion on big trips. Despite its origin in the US, it features the so-called medium rear axle transmission. This car comes with comprehensive receipts from German body shops confirming that it has always been technically taken care of.

A loyal companion on long journeys

Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray

When the first Corvette was introduced in 1953, it looked much faster than it was. But the staid image of Chevrolet has since been revamped on a grand scale. Since 1964, the Corvette was called “Sting Ray” and was finally considered mature. Even today, the Corvette is considered America’s very own sports car.

Our Sting Ray is a convertible with a hardtop. The sports car has been extensively restored and received the stronger 350 cid V8 engine. The four-speed gearshift with “Hurst Shifter”, the exhaust fan brummer and the “Knock-off” aluminum wheels with central lock make the appeal of this classic car. Correct parts were a key focus of the restoration. The original but outdated radio and the mechanical clock with electric wind up are result of that focus. A current valuation report is available and the Corvette is approved in Germany.

American dream car

Mercedes-Benz 280 SL

The new 230 SL sports car, quickly named “Pagoda” because of the shape of its hardtop, was a multi-talented car. It easily replaced the predecessor 190 SL. But it wasn’t a successor to the famous 300 SL. There was still a gap. The new SL should be a sports two-seater with high performance, optimal handling and high ride comfort. That’s exactly what this car was able to do. Thus the cars from the 250 SL to the 280 SL became the success story of the series. With this model development, Mercedes also implemented the automatic transmission on a broad basis.

Our Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Roadster was originally delivered in the US and has been based in Germany since 1990. The Kienle company completely restored it in 2004, which is documented in detail. The “pagoda” was a highlight in a collection of classic vehicles, driven only a few miles, and maintained well. This car is not any car of the series but fulfills even the highest of expectations.
